- Abstract
This article discusses the ongoing need to optimize prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care for HIV/AIDS. It highlights the high prevalence and incidence of HIV infection globally, with millions of people affected, particularly in Africa. While there is no cure for HIV/AIDS, antiretroviral therapy (ART) has significantly improved outcomes and transformed HIV infection into a manageable chronic disease. The article emphasizes the challenges in HIV management, such as medication cost, drug interactions, adverse reactions, and comorbidity management. It also introduces two expert consensus recommendations on the use of recently approved antiretroviral drugs for the prevention and treatment of HIV-1 infection, focusing on heavily treatment-experienced individuals and the use of long-acting antiretroviral medications.
