- Title
The soul in soulless psychology.
- Authors
Hevern, Vincent
- Abstract
This article explores the question of whether the concept of the soul has a place in modern psychology. The author examines the historical, metaphysical, and theological significance of the soul in Western culture and how psychologists in the 19th and 20th centuries grappled with incorporating it into their discipline. The book discusses the rejection of the soul by mainstream psychology, the development of secular and scientific concepts to replace it, and the arguments made by lesser-known thinkers who challenged psychology for discarding the soul. Despite the rejection of the soul by modern psychology, the author argues that it continues to be a topic of dialogue and cannot be dismissed as a psychological category.
