- Abstract
The effect of light upon the growth rates of Balanus balanoides and B. crenatus growing under totally submerged conditions have been compared. In neither species had light any significant effect on the growth rate, fertilisation or development of embryos. A smaller growth rate is found than in previous investigation and it is suggested that this is due to the reduced flow of water in the enclosed compartments used for controlling the light intensity.
