- Title
Fact and Fiction in Fichte's Theory of Religion.
- Authors
CROWE, BENJAMIN
- Abstract
The article explores philosophical theories on religion developed by philosopher J. G. Fichte. Emphasis is given to the Jena period of his work at the height of his fame and influence. The author reflects on atheistic fictionalism and religious experience as a fact of consciousness as understood by Fichte. It is suggested that Fichte's theories of religion are explanatory models whose credibility relies upon their internal logical structure. Other topics include belief in an external world, moral obligations, and the totality of experience.
