- Abstract
The article discusses economic observation in imperial Russia through an examination of national statistical organizations and data-gathering institutions. Particular focus is given to the work of agricultural economist A. V. Chayanov, historical economist A. I. Chuprov, and statistical theorist A. A. Chuprov. Institutions examined include the Free Economic Society, the zemstvo, or local government, and natural resource surveys. Observations of peasant farming and agricultural yields are detailed as well.
