- Abstract
Along history, education in Mexico has presented a series of situations perceived as problematic from basic to postgraduate level. Thus, improvement actions are undoubtedly required. Postgraduate studies are fundamentally intended to use and generate new knowledge that allow us dealing with different unbalanced situations within our society. To attain this goal, it is important to select proper postgraduate students from an integral perspective and look for their transdisciplinary development. This article proposes a multi-attribute method for measuring and stablishing a hierarchical order among candidates to be elected for entering postgraduate programs. Stablished hierarchies were selected using two multi-attribute decision methods; and a third method based on the principal components of multivariant analysis was implemented. Our proposed instrument is based on auto perception measurement of two candidates' abilities: information search and research methodology. Proposed instrument includes 39 items that were applied to a random selected sample of 48 candidates to post graduate programs at Mexican National Polytechnical Institute (Instituto Politécnico Nacional: IPN) between 2013 and 2019. Cronbach's alfa coefficient and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin & Bartlett test were used for validating this instrument. The three methods used in this article are able to objectively weight entropy among our instrument's items. The best candidates' selection method is the one that presents lower variation among candidates' hierarchies when evaluating all possible combinations. Finally, it is possible to apply the CRITIC method to measure candidates' research abilities and selecting those willing to enter to a postgraduate program.
