- Abstract
The article presents a study which aims to identify the relationship between chronic exposure to second-hand smoking (SHS) and the presence of diabetes mellitus in elderly individuals living in Mediterranean Islands. The study was participated by 1190 elderly men and women who undergone fasting blood glucose and a series of medical assessment. Results showed that chronic SHS exposure in non-smokers was linked with 63 percent risks of having diabetes.
