- Abstract
Restitutions are complex and political processes. They involve diverse actors and interest conflicts that are related with the bodies, in a meshwork that includes more actors than those claiming and the institutions that restitute. This paper is a contribution to the discussion about complex relations woven in public contexts that are developed during human restitution processes. We analyze a case of restitution of two guanche mummies from Necochea (Bs. As., Argentina) to Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), between 2001 and 2004, from the theoretical perspective of Public Archaeology. We inquire about social representations and identification processes from different groups that were part of the process. We highlight the tensions related with different interests which were legitimized through different memory processes. We also emphasize the relevance of the dialogue and agreement among groups, for the resolution of conflicts related with this complex and sensitive processes. We call the attention of the need of a decolonized view in science when participating in the management of indigenous restitutions.
