- Authors
Pellow, C. Kenneth
- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented for the novel "Slow Man" by J. M. Coetzee. It explores Coetzee's use of intertextuality, or references to other texts. Examples are the return of the character Elizabeth Costello from Coetzee's preceding novel, use of a character from the previous novel as the novelist of the current one, and references to the novel "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad. Themes evoked in the relationship between the characters Elizabeth Costello and Paul Rayment are discussed.
