- Title
Writing the Triple Whammy: Canadian-Jewish-Québécois Identity, the Comedy of Self-Deprecation, and the Triumph of Duddy Kravitz.
- Authors
Brauner, David
- Abstract
This article examines how the late writer and satirist Mordecai Richler's membership in three different stigmatized groups provided materials for his work. According to the author, Richler was a member of a despised minority and living in Quebec which was marginalized by dominant national culture. He argues that Richler's protagonists, such as Jake Hersh, punished themselves for their perceived inferiority. He suggests that Richler's greatest created character was Duddy Kravitz who embodied the comic stereotype of the Jew.
