- Abstract
This article explores the concept of the human body as an ecosystem inhabited by microbial communities, known as the microbiota. It also discusses how our homes and cities are ecosystems that include bacterial communities interacting with us. The article highlights the influence of the environmental microbiota on our health and the impact of urbanization on the diversity of the urban gut microbiota. It suggests the use of antibiotics and probiotics to modify the urban microbiota and emphasizes the need for strategies to restore bacterial diversity in urban environments. The text also discusses the relationship between architectural design and the indoor microbiome, as well as the potential for microorganisms to become part of architectural infrastructure. It emphasizes the need for collaboration between microbiology and architecture to address environmental challenges and redefine concepts of health and care. The document is a list of references from various scientific articles and books related to the topic of microbiomes and their impact on urban environments, providing a comprehensive list of sources for library patrons conducting research on these topics.
