- Abstract
Objective: To analyze the factors associated with the inadequacy of the beginning of prenatal care according to the Adequacy Index for the Use of Prenatal Care. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative study. An interview was conducted guided by a script with socioeconomic, gestational, institutional and access variables, with 60 pregnant women registered in a Basic Health Unit in the city of Macapá, Amapá. The data were processed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 21.0, with descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. For the association between the beginning of prenatal care (adequate and inadequate) and the variables, the Chi-square and T-Student tests were used. The multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression with odds ratio (Odds ratio - OR), with the response to inadequate early prenatal care as a variable. Results: The beginning of prenatal care was considered inappropriate for 56.67% (n = 34) of pregnant women. There was a significant association of variables: age group (p = 0.021) and pregnancy planning (p = 0.005). Significant OR for inadequate prenatal care in the variables: municipality of residence (Islands of Pará, OR = 5.986, p = 0.034); pregnancy planning (unplanned pregnancy, OR = 6.365, p = 0.007) and age group (15 to 24 years, OR = 3.58, p = 0.039). Conclusion: The factors associated with inadequacy are sociodemographic and behavioral.
