- Abstract
The environment of structural political-economic reforms has raised concerns despite the future well-being and the development of families. In parallel to these changes, B3 (the Brazilian stock exchange) registered in 2020 a historical growth above two million investors registered on the stock exchange. Factors such as the social security deficit and the sharp cut in the domestic interest rate, the reduction in the premium on fixed income securities and the assumption of the Government's inability to honor the payments of the securities issued led investors to take risk through investments in the stock exchange, in order to obtain gains in line with the agreed risk. Among the more than two million individuals who invest in shares, the present paper aimed to analyze how the buy and hold strategy influences the decision-making and portfolio composition of investors residing in the Baixada Fluminense region who seek long-term returns. This article contributes to the expansion of the theoretical discussion on the theme of investment strategies adopted by young long-term investors in variable income, in order to enrich the field of studies on the capital market. Thus, qualitative research was carried out through a field study with these investors. After analyzing the responses collected in the questionnaire, it was possible to conclude that the strategy in question promotes proven results for individuals who make investments aiming at retirement, passive income or full financial independence.
