- Abstract
The article discusses restrictions on the number of hours that medical interns can be on duty during a week, examining the relationship of such restrictions with on-call resident's educational time. Residents who work shorter hours but are required to serve the same number of patients may become too busy to practice proper medical care and skip educational conferences, the article indicates. Other topics include an increased medical residential workload and the traditional extended-shift model for internal medicine (IM) interns.
