- Abstract
The article discusses a review that evaluates the current evidence and possible mechanisms explaining the relationship between the gut microflora and neurological function. The authors talk about an animal study which showed that germ-free mice exhibited an increased hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA)-axis responsiveness to stress during adulthood. Also tackled is clinical research which demonstrated the efficacy of probiotics as a preventive and adjuvant therapy.
