- Abstract
For his treatise titled Některé pokyny o kadeřících a jich provedení (Some Instructions Concerning Cadenzas and Their Performance), the voice teacher František Pivoda (1824-98) prepared a practical part called Fermaty (Cadenzas), Op. 106. The publication of the practical partdid not cometofruition, but Pivoda's papersdeposited in the Czech Museum of Music in Prague include sketches for it and materials intended for the engraver. Among these preparatory materials we find thirty-one cadenzas ušed by the coloratura soprano Eleonora z Ehrenbergů (1832-1912) taken from her own musical notations thereof. Materials from her estate held by the Theatrical Division of the National Museum in Prague include many sources pertaining to her variants of ornamental singing. Some of them are anonymous, and their identification is very difficult. Analysis of the set of cadenzas copied by Pivoda confirms her renown as a singer comparable to leading vocal artists elsewhere in Europe.
