- Abstract
A literary criticism of the book "Decameron" by Giovanni Boccaccio is presented. It explores the representation of ballads by the brigata group of Florentines outside Florence, Italy in Boccaccio's collection of novellas. It analyzes the relation of the ballads to the story of the brigata to achieve a proper understanding of the novellas. It examines the festive celebrations that surround the ballad and the elements of the ritual of transferal of the honor and responsibility in the story.
