- Title
Totalitarian vestiges in post-communist Bulgaria's political discourse.
- Authors
VASSILIEV, Rossen
- Abstract
The Bulgarian political leaders from our days resort to the use of a high-flown, boastful, and manipulative phraseology largely reminiscent of the old Communist lingo in order to persuade a distrustful and skeptical public of the advantages of Western-style democracy and "free-market" capitalism. This article is focusing on the nature of the political language that has been in use since 1989 in Bulgaria and investigates the impact of the "totalitarian language" on the language of politics in this country after the fall of communism.
