- Abstract
The article presents information on the clinical impact of diabetes on peripheral arterial disease. It states that it is important to recognize that diabetes is a syndrome in which a cluster of haemodynamic and metabolic abnormalities interact to cause macro and microvascular complications. Although the diagnosis and symptoms of diabetes are defined by hyperglycaemia, other features of the syndrome, such as hypertension and dyslipidaemia, are equally if not more important in the pathogenesis of diabetes-related cardiovascular complications.
