- Authors
Rubenstein, Richard L.
- Abstract
The article discusses the differences between Christianity and Judaism from cultural, religious, and psychological perspectives with a focus on the concept of sacrificial religion. The chapter and verses in the Bible's Old Testament book of Genesis (Gen. 22:1-19) concerning the Aqedah and Abraham's acceptance of God's command to sacrifice his son Isaac are discussed. Abraham's unquestioning obedience to God, Christianity's narrative of the Passover lamb that saves Israel's first born, and Jesus Christ's obedience and unquestioning acceptance of crucifixion are also discussed. The idea of a perfectly obedient human being a perfect human sacrifice is discussed.
