- Authors

- Abstract
The donation, procurement, processing and distribution of human tissues for transplantation are directed by the basic principles of ethical behaviour which are usually elucidated in a Code of Ethics. Translating this Code into practice requires an associated Code of Practice, which details the actions that should or should not to be performed to ensure the safety and rights of tissue donors, recipients and tissue bank personnel, and the obligations thereof. It covers effective ways to identify and manage risks, review current practices, take corrective action when necessary, and guarantee compliance with the Code of Ethics. The paper offers a model for the elaboration of a Code of Practice for tissue banks operating in countries that does not have such a code, particularly developing countries.
