- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the Fifteenth Ward Society Hall building in Salt Lake City, Utah. Particular focus is given to the role of the Mormon Women's Relief Society in the design and financing of the building. According to the author, the building was produced by and helped to sustain an active and significant public culture among Mormon women that included political speech and action on topics including freedom of religion, polygamy, and women's suffrage. It is suggested that this culture shaped both the urban landscape and everyday life in their community. Details on the role of frontier living in Mormon women's culture are presented. Other topics include the hierarchy of the Mormon Church and the history of the Relief Society.
