- Abstract
Objective: We reported two cases of refractory functional dyspepsia (FD) with main symptoms of epigastric pain and bloatedness which previously failed to respond to standard treatment of this disorder. Design: A case report. Materials and Methods: We accoutered two cases of refractory functional dyspepsia with clinical symptoms of epigastric pain, bloatedness and indigestion. Treatments with standard treatments include Helicobacter pylori eradication, acid inhibitory agents and prokinetics had shown no improvement. These patients were treated with oxycodone during episode of intractable epigastric pain. Results: The main symptoms of functional dyspepsia include epigastric pain and bloatedness dramatically resolved following oral oxycodone. Conclusion: This case report is meant to highlight the efficacy of oxycodone (oxynorm and oxycontin), a kappa opioid receptor agonist, in treating the main symptoms of FD and to unleash the great potential of oxycodone as a sole agent in the treatment of FD.
