- Abstract
An essay is presented which offers a defense of American criminal justice as of May 2014, focusing on various aspects of wrongful convictions, a right to counsel in the U.S., and America's plea bargaining process. Democratic virtues and criminal juries are addressed, along with accountability in state judiciaries in the U.S. The relationship between crime and punishment is mentioned, along with the Innocence Project advocacy group and efforts to overhaul America's criminal laws and procedures.
