- Abstract
The article discusses the American juvenile justice system, sentencing, and the potential impact of minor criminal convictions under the career offender sentencing provisions of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines as of May 2013. Other topics include U.S. Supreme Court (USSC) precedent, state law, and the rehabilitative goals of the nation's juvenile justice system. The parens patriae legal principle is mentioned, along with the 1967 USSC case In re Gault.
