- Abstract
A 60-year-old man presented to dermatology department with a 20-year history of a gradually progressing lesion on the right knee. , a neglected tropical disease, is a chronic cutaneous and subcutaneous fungal infection caused by dematiaceous fungi producing melanin, including I Fonsecaea i spp. I Cladophialophora i , I Phialophora i and I Rhinocladiella i .[1],[2] Verrucous or granulomatous plaques on the limbs represent the main clinical features.[2] Histopathological examination reveals round, thick-walled, brownish, septate sclerotic bodies are the unique and crucial diagnostic clues.[1] Treatment includes long-term systemic antifungal therapy, surgical excision, local thermotherapy and cryotherapy.[1] The lesions recovered with atrophic scars after a 18-month therapy with oral itraconazole. Edges of the lesion were elevated and crusted, and atrophy in the middle (Figure 1A).
