- Abstract
This article focuses on the political and social influence of consumer leagues in Sweden and Norway from 1930 to 1960. Several topics are discussed, including how social democratic governing bodies in Sweden and Norway positively influenced socio-economic relations, how consumer organizations lost their influence as individual consumers (such as housewives) gained influence over what products were produced, and how the influence of trade unions changed after the social democratic parties took control in Sweden and Norway during the 1930s. Also mentioned is that consumer societies successfully promoted rational spending among housewives, how consumer education was affected by advertising, and how World War II affected consumer behavior in Sweden and Norway.
