- Abstract
The article describes the allergic contact dermatitis caused by poison ivy, eastern poison oak, western poison oak, and poison sumac. Contact with the plants' oil, uroshiol, results in an allergic contact dermatits. The clinical manifestations of ACD to species of the Anacardiaceae family include erythematous, papulovesicular rash that occurs within 24 to 48 hours. The rash may grow in size and development of new vesicles can occur during the first 2 weeks without additional contact with uroshiol.
