The article discusses the link between religion and the railroad industry in West Virginia history. According to the article, the West Virginia hills attracted railroad entrepreneurs and Protestant missionaries in the mid-19th century. The article examines the work of Methodist and Presbyterian missionaries and churches in Randolph County, West Virginia, and Tucker County, West Virginia, the influence of secular elites among churches in both counties, and Christian values in West Virginia.
