- Abstract
Objective: To identify social, interpersonal, and individual factors associated with suicidal ideation in adolescents and young adults in Latin America and the Caribbean. Method: The type of study corresponds to a scoping review. A search equation was constructed based on the PCC strategy (Participants, Concept and Context). The search was performed in the Scopus, SAGE, and Embase databases. Results: A total of 44 articles were analyzed. Suicidal ideation was related to emotional regulation, mood, drug use, gender, economic problems, family support, violence, breakup with romantic partner, religion, and social support. Conclusions: We identified the individual factors linked to suicidal ideation: low positive affect, high negative affect, depressed mood, anxiety, emotional intelligence, alcohol abuse, tobacco use, impulsivity, female gender and suicidal behaviors. Social factors: hunger, poverty, violence, economic problems, quality of life, economic class, religion and limited social support. Finally, concerning interpersonal factors: family support and functioning, support from significant others, support from school and friends, breakup with romantic partners, low parental support.
