- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between certain variants in the fibrinogen α-chain and their association with bleeding and thrombotic events. The authors challenge the assertion that these variants are solely linked to bleeding, presenting evidence that they can also be associated with thrombosis. They provide a comprehensive molecular profile of congenital fibrinogen diseases and emphasize the importance of innovative diagnostic tools in understanding these diseases. The article includes a table summarizing the clinical manifestations of patients with these variants, highlighting that they can result in bleeding, thrombosis, or be asymptomatic. The specific mechanisms behind these events are not well understood, and managing asymptomatic patients with these variants can be challenging. Further research is needed to better understand the variability in clinical outcomes associated with these variants.
