- Abstract
This article discusses the impact of a virtual international medical research mentorship program. The authors acknowledge that while virtual meetings cannot fully replace face-to-face interactions, they recognize the benefits of building in-person relationships. The study involved 38 researchers from six countries, with 30 students participating in the mentorship program. The mentees reported high levels of satisfaction with the mentorship, gaining a better understanding of medical research and becoming more interested in it. The program also helped reduce gender inequalities and promote engagement in academic medicine. The authors anticipate that their combination of virtual and in-person collaborations will lead to flexible research training and formal recognition through doctoral degrees.
