- Title
"Somehow Caught": Race and Deferred Sexuality in McCullers's "The Member of the Wedding."
- Authors
Jewett, Chad M.
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the novel "The Member of the Wedding" by Chad M. Jewett is presented. It outlines the main character and explores her options as she attempts to distinguish herself without the painful rejection of forced racial separation and unwelcome physicality of white southern heterosexual womanhood or the queer gender-indefinability. It examines a young girl's outlets as she deals with limiting prospects caused by her sexuality and race. An overview of the story is also given.
