- Title
Cultural Match or Culturally Suspect: How New Teachers of Color Negotiate Sociocultural Challenges in the Classroom.
- Abstract
The article summarizes research by Betty Achinstein and Julia Aguirre appearing in volume 110 (2008) of the journal "Teachers College Record," studying linguistically and racially diverse teachers matched with culturally similar students for the first three years of their teaching experience. Their results lead the researchers to question the assumption that cultural matching of teachers with students makes the educational experience easier and more productive for both sides.
