- Authors
Willner, Lynn Shafer; Rivera, Charlene; Acosta, Barbara D.
- Abstract
The article focuses on educational solutions developed to accommodate the linguistic needs of English language learners (ELLs) to assess skills in mathematics, science, and reading/language arts. Legislation in the U.S. regarding mandated accommodations for ELLs for both elementary and secondary education are discussed. Some of the accommodation strategies reported on include teaching students the content upon which they will be tested, offering language assistance services, using a team approach to determine a student's need, and make assessment decisions based on an individual case-by-case basis.
