- Abstract
A literary criticism of English dramatist Thomas Dekker's 1604-1605 play "The Honest Whore, I and II" is presented. The author suggests that Dekker was influenced by Roman author Lucius Apuleius's novel "Metamorphoses or The Golden Ass," which was translated into English by William Adlington in 1566. It is suggested that Dekker used Apuleius's reference to philosopher Plato's myth of the tripartite soul to construct his character Candido.
