- Abstract
It is possible to define a proverb as a short, concise saying, which is a stereotyped form, which gives judgments of ancestors based on long trials and observations as a general rule, wise thought or advice. In this study, it is aimed to examine the proverbs used in and around Gökce village in Mardin province, one of the prominent provinces in the Southeastern Anatolia region of Turkey, in a comparative way with those in fluent Arabic and Turkish. In cases where proverbs cannot be accessed in comparisons, there are similar similarities in both Turkish and Arabic. In our study, in which a total of eighteen thems and seventy proverbs were discussed, besides the usage of the people of the region, the standard Arabic of the proverbs was also given and evaluated with their Turkish equivalents. In cases where proverbs cannot be reached in comparisons, poems that are used in a similar sense in both Turkish and Arabic are included. In addition to this, the stories of some proverbs are also included. Because it is possible to say that it is important to know the story of a proverb. Also, by considering the proverbs used in Mardin Gökce village and its surroundings; Another goal is to record the oral culture, which may face the danger of extinction with the death of the elderly population and transfer it to future generations. On the other hand, it is also aimed to contribute to the literary and cultural richness of the language spoken in this region.
