- Title
Effects of Methoxychlor Pre-Exposure on Sea Urchin Gametes.
- Authors
Mwatibo, J. M.; Green, J. D.
- Abstract
The article presents a study which identifies the effects of methoxychlor (MXC) on early sea urchin development. It has showed that exposure of fertilized eggs at 15 min post-insemination to MXC for 30, 60 or 90 min resulted in delay of cleavage and abnormal gastrulation. MXC is used as a broad spectrum insectide on crops in home gardens and dairy barns for horsefly control. The authors found that the effects include testicular carcinomas, anomalous fetuses, and abnormalities of the reproductive system of mice.
