- Abstract
This study characterized the use of TikTok and its relationship to academic procrastination and time management in a sample of 216 undergraduate students at a public institution. We used a quantitative approach, non-experimental method, descriptive-correlational level, with a cross-sectional design. We also used assessment scales, questionnaires, and surveys. Results showed a low level of frequency of Tik- Tok usage and a medium level of procrastination for different reasons. Likewise, we found difficulties in time management, with a greater tendency to disorganization among the male gender and a low score in the use of time management tools, with better results in women. We found a low, positive correlation between TikTok use and almost all areas of procrastination; for time management, we found a low, positive correlation between frequency of TikTok use and preference for disorganization, and a low, negative correlation between the time management tools variable and the variables of obsession with being connected and satisfaction with being connected to TikTok. TikTok use could interfere with the fulfillment of academic obligations, highlighting the relevance of fostering time management skills and emotional and cognitive self-regulation in university students.
