Wildlife cancer: The details are not so devilish.
- Authors
Alderton, Gemma K.
- Abstract
The author presents her views on the studies about the biology of devil facial tumuor disease (DFTD). She notes that the genomic and transcriptomic data from the research of Elisabeth P. Murchinson and D. McAloose as well as their respective colleagues can be very useful in the prevention of Tasmanian devil extinction. She states that DFTD tumuors might emerged from a mutual precursor cell while the Schwann cell-specific myelin protein periaxin (PRX) may also be utilized as diagnostic marker.
