- Abstract
The objectives of the research are to diagnose the reality of student loan system in the universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to identify the global experiences in student loan system, to determine the facets of the extrapolation of these experiences, and to present proposals for the development of student loan system in the Kingdom in light of international experiences. The research used descriptive analytical methodology, and the research community consists of student fund managers in Saudi government universities which are 33 universities, while the research sample consisted of the student fund managers of six universities which were selected by the method of intentional sample. In addition, the research used the interview tool as a means of gathering information. One of the most prominent results was that the student loan system in the universities of Saudi Arabia suffers from a general weakness, and it needs to be developed. On the other hand, student loan system in USA, UK, Germany, and Japan has multiple types and options. Moreover, the size of loans is larger, and most of the loans applied in them are income-linked loans. Most of these countries adopt flexible payment and deferral policies. There are legal fees in the event of failure to pay. However, The study recommends opening various types and options of loans to students in Saudi universities by encouraging community partnerships with banks, community, institutions, and families. Furthermore, it recommends creating systems and regulations that support the development of other types of loans. The research also recommends applying student loan system related to income through the development of regulations to ensure its success.
