- Abstract
The aim of this current study is to examine the effectiveness of a training program to improve the development of Social Skills in a sample of Jordanian students of basic sixth and seventh with Learning Disabilities who are enrolled in a Learning Disabilities program in schools in Sahab area.The study sample consisted of (40) male and female students with learning disabilities, divided into two groups, (20) in the control group and (20) in the experimental group.To achieve the objectives of the study, a training program that consisted of (17) sessions, two sessions per week and lasted for 8 weeks, was prepared by the researcher and implemented on the experimental group during the second semester of the academic year 2016/2017 to improve social skills.The content of the training program was verified by submitting it first to a Commission of Arbitrators, and then one measures are applied; a social skills scale that are prepared by the researcher, after checking the validity and suitability through appropriate statistical methods.The collected data on these one measures was analyzed statistically using different methods including medians, means, standard deviation and variance.The results showed a statistically significant difference in measurements of social skills between the study group which was taught using peer tutoring methods versus the control group, and these were to the interest of the experimental group.Moreover; the results showed that there are no statistically significant differences between the study and control groups for the following variables, gender and the academic grade. A number of recommendations were derived from this study, the most important is the necessity of including teaching curriculums for students with learning disabilities, and teaching units practicing, for improving the social skills.
