- Abstract
The article discusses a study by D. Maltsev et al on the association of the genetic deficiency of folate cycle with the development of autism in children. Topics include the genetic and non-genetic prenatal, perinatal and postnatal factors linked to autism, the sources of folate and its key role in developing neurological pathways and the growth of major cell types within the central nervous system, and the contributors to a very high clinical and molecular heterogeneity of autism such as diet.
