- Abstract
The article presents a study on the differences between men and women in choices of college majors in the United States in 1955 and 1973. The study examines data on college majors among male and female college students in the United States. Analysis of the data shows that more male college students specialize in sciences, engineering, and business, while more female students specialize in education, nursing, and liberal arts. The relationship between sex differences in higher education and in the labor market is discussed. The impact of sex discrimination in employment on academic and career choice is addressed.
