- Abstract
The article provides information on the Department for Theory and Organization of Science established at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. In 1969, postgraduate studies in science management for those from industrial and scientific institutions were introduced, and since 1970 students of Socialist Science Management have been graduating as certified "Science Organizers." These studies were introduced in spite of the divergent opinions represented in international discussion on the possibilities and requirements of such study, and with the awareness that research in the field of the "science of science" had not yet provided a basis for an independent branch of study. After analyzing the experience gained since 1970, and in accordance with the demands and resolutions of the Eighth Party Congress of the Socialist Unity Party, a new program was introduced for these studies in September 1975. Students are prepared for organizing working, planning, and management processes at scientific institutions and facilities, and are then employed as scientific assistants to the institution heads. They work mainly in functional and staff units, computing centers, and academic, industrial, and social fields.
