- Abstract
The article discusses the issue concerning the role played by women in the society and their participation in politics in Germany and Switzerland. It stresses that issues related to women including voting behavior, gender differences and political participation were receiving less attention until in the mid-1980s in Germany. German feminism has been carried out by students and women in social service professions which discusses issues on abortion and violence against women. The author explores the problems facing women employees working for a government department or agency as well as the failure of reunification in the country. Meanwhile, it states that suffrage has been one of the issues facing Swiss women in the 20th century and women representatives have increased in 1971.
