- Title
The Greek Exodus Translator's (or Translators') Rendering of םיהלא.
- Authors
PERKINS, LARRY
- Abstract
The Greek translator of Exodus employed specific strategies in rendering the Hebrew noun םיהלא, using primarily the noun θεός. When םיהלא refers to Israel's deity, the translator usually employs an arthrous form of θεός. Analyzing the translator's treatment of םיהלא as well as his use of θεός enables us to define more accurately what the phrase "faithful yet free" means as a description of his translation strategy. Perhaps "faithful to the source but accommodating to the target text" would be a more appropriate description.
