The article focuses on how republic of letters functioned such as Anne Goldgar's "Impolite Learning: Conduct and Community in the Republic of Letters, 1680–1750 " and the way religion shapes scholarly pursuits and friendship in Constance Furey's "Erasmus, Contarini, and the Religious Republic of Letters". It mentions relationship between confessional beliefs and intellectual inquiry and much of the argument in "Criticism and Confession: The Bible in the Seventeenth Century Republic of Letters."
