- Abstract
Intradiploic epidermoid cyst is a rare benign and slow progressive lesion. In the most cases, have congenital origin (by the inclusion of ectodermal cells in bne tissue during neural tube closure), but may also occur postsurgically or posttraumatically. Material and method: We present the case of a 74 year old pacient who has been hospitalized for bilateral blindness, occipital and vertiginous syndrome for about 24 hours. Initial native CT scan was made followed by MRI with contrast substance. Following the results, the decision of the surgical intervention is made, with the ablation of the tumor. Results: The native CT scan followed by MRI with contrast revealed a tumor located in the diploic of the occipital bone on the left side, wich expands the bone and disrupts the cortical continuum with extradural intracranial extension on small portions and subcutaneously. Conclusions: Although epidermoid cysts are benign, they can reach considerable dimensions by determining neurological deficits. CT and cranio-cerebral MRI are indispensable for diagnosis and preoperative assessment. The complete resection of these types of formations is associated with a favorable prognosis with long-lasting survival.
