- Title
THE EFFECTS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL CLOSENESS AND TYPE EXCHANGE SITUATION ON PERCEIVED INEQUITY.
- Authors
Campbell, Donald J.
- Abstract
In this article the author discusses research he conducted that examined the effects that psychological closeness has one one's perceptions of inequity. The aim of this study is to examine if feelings of inequity are a function of the perceived closeness of the comparison person examined. He hypothesizes that perceived inequity would increase as the person used as a comparison changed from a work acquaintance to a friend or close friend and that perceived inequity would be greater in situations of direct social exchange than in indirect exchanges. His findings suggest that psychological closeness had no influence on perceptions of inequity and that indirect exchanges were perceived as being more inequitable than direct exchanges.
